Children's Classes (Ages 3to 7)
Our "Little Dragon" class is taught age appropriate for
this group's learning potential. This group is challenged to keep
up with the concepts taught in our children's class so we have developed
a curriculum just for them. A forty five-minute class is the optimum
time for this age group. While learning self-defense these children
will have lots of fun in a curriculum custom designed to build their
confidence along with respect and self-control. All classes are
taught with a mental as well as physical lesson in mind.
Children's Classes (Ages
8 to 14)
It's a scary world out there for kids, isn't it? Each day we ask
our children to face challenges that were unheard of just a few
short years ago. Over crowded classrooms, Peer pressure, and Violence.
A level of negativity in our society that can discourage even the
brightest and most optimistic child. Then, when our children hopefully
manage to remain physically safe, we can't help but feel alarmed
- wondering if they are maintaining optimism and the self-esteem
they had when they were younger. I am writing to you - as one parent
to another - with an important message: It doesn't have to be this
way. A solution exists. And it's easier than you think.
I have been teaching Martial Arts to families just like yours
for many years and I am also a proud parent. What would you think
if I told you that your child's level of Confidence, Energy, and
Enthusiasm could be increased - until they become unstoppable?
Unstoppable in pursuit of: ·
Academic Achievement
High Self-Esteem
A Fit, Healthy Lifestyle
And not only will they pursue and achieve these qualities
what if I were to guarantee that they would enjoy the process?
Of course, The Self Defense Academy does teach children how to
protect themselves (although, not in the hard-core, violent way
that you might imagine!).
For example, we teach:
Self-defense strategy: how to avoid dangerous
people and situations
Conflict resolution techniques: skills
that enable your child to live and interact peaceably and harmoniously
with others and, a simple, but overlooked skill it's the
single most important factor in keeping your child from being
bullied - and we will be teaching this to your child in the very
first lesson! And yet, while our program will teach your child
the necessary "protection skills," the emphasis of our
curriculum is on developing the skills that EMPOWER them to be
TOP PERFORMERS!
High achievers aren't born - they are
made.
And now, by joining our Team, YOU can put these skills to work
in your family! Not only will your child enjoy the fun and excitement
of an upbeat, positive Martial Art program, they will be developing
"real life skills" and will benefit immediately!
Here's what you'll see:
Self-Control - your child will follow rules and resist
negative peer pressure automatically! Improved Focus - your child will listen effectively, and
will "zero in" on the task at hand unaffected
by distractions! Unstoppable Self-Confidence - all types of challenges will
be tackled more skillfully; your child will be free to pursue
the many opportunities life has to offer - without fear! Think more clearly - and I don't need to share with you
the benefits of clear thinking in school, do I? Children are not born with these types of necessary skills
but these behaviors can be taught.
Many parents feel "stuck" - and
say:
"My child just doesn't have the confidence
that it takes." Or "I wish my child had better self-control."
And, how many parents have wondered if
their children have the focus and attention span necessary to
be successful learners?
Now, you may be asking, "How
can I know for sure that the Self Defense Academy teaching system
will work for my child?"
I've got some great news for you: It's
never been easier to find out.
You see, I am so sure that my unique martial
arts program will benefit you and your child that I am offering
you the opportunity to try our introductory course, for only $39.95
which comes with a Uniform, so your child will fit right in!
Wing Chun Kung Fu is a traditional Chinese fighting art that was
created over 300 years ago in the legendary Shaolin Temple.
Wing Chun is incredibly powerful and simple to learn. It operates
around natural physical principles, disruption of balance and equilibrium,
and redirection of force. Built around these fighting principles,
the student can flow from one technique to another, so they are
not bound to move in set patterns. Wing Chun is not a competition
style of martial arts, but a combat art that is designed for self
defense only. We teach this class so that any person can feel safe
while training and does not have to worry about being injured during
training.
Judo is a Japanese martial art that was founded in the
1890's.
Judo is a finer moral concept of Jujitsu. Judo recognizes the mind
and body strengthening capacities of Jujitsu, but is less dangerous
for the practitioners. Judo is a method of body management and self-defense.
Judo can be practiced as a sport, however, was not originally designed
for that purpose. In this class the student will learn the correct
way to fall and roll properly. They will also learn how to throw,
take down an opponent, ground protection if a bully is on top of
them and how to get up.
Hawaiian Jujitsu
Jujitsu is an unarmed system of combat originally practiced by the
Samurai Warriors in Japan. Jujitsu is a combination of escapes,
joint locks, throws, chokes, submissions, and strikes to vital points
on the body.
Hawaiian Jujitsu (Danzan Ryu) is an eclectic martial art founded
in Hawaii in the 1920's. The style(Ryu) is a combination of six
systems of classical Japanese Jujitsu, Kodokan Judo, Praying Mantis
Kung-Fu, Okinawan Karate, Hawaiian Lua, and American Boxing and
Wrestling. Hawaiian Jujitsu is extremely comprehensive and also
incorporates the oriental healing arts. Hawaiian Jujitsu could be
referred to as America's first Mixed Martial Art. However, self-defense
and perfection of character is emphasized instead of competitive
sport.

Mixed Martial Arts Program
With a Mixed Martial Arts Membership you come in for training
three days week, attending one class of Combat Jujitsu, two classes
of Wing Chun. This is a great way for those interested in learning
MMA for fitness and fun, but not necessarily for competitive fighting,
to get a start in MMA.
Tired of worrying about your child each time
they leave the house?
Ever wonder if your child would go with a stranger?
Even to help them find their lost puppy........
What is the Kids Quick Defense Program?
The program consists of four 45 minute classes, held once a week.
If you don't have the time to committ to
a regular Martial Arts Program, but still want your child to be
protected, then this mini course is Right For You...
In this course your children will learn to:
* Be and act more aware. * Project a confident attitude. * Set
appropriate boundaries. * Use voice and body language to escape
threatening situations. * Recognize common "Lures" used
by strangers and abusers. * Deal more effectively with bullying
and harassment.
* Use physical resistance when ALL ELSE FAILS by practicing simple,
effective, self defense skills.
Violence, bullying, and abuse have become major health issues
of our time.
Law enforcement and crime prevention officials estimate that:
* More than 100,000 children each year will become victims of
attempted kidnappings by strangers.
* 1 out of 3 girls and 1 out of 6 boys will be sexually abused
before the age of 18.
* l out of 7 school children will be harmed by bullying.
* 5 out of 6 of today's 12 year olds will become victims of a
violent crime in their lifetime.
We will cover all areas of Self Defense,
from awareness to physical assault. This course is great for someone
that doesn't want to spend a lot of time learning traditional
Martial Arts.
SDA offers this course to businesses and organizations who are
increasingly concerned about the personal safety and well-being
of their employees. To address these concerns, SDA offers this
special course that specifically focus on personal safety in and
out of the workplace.
This program teaches men, women and teen boys/girls how to recognize
situations and behaviors that signal the early stages of an assault.
Participants learn how to respond to assault situations, and how
to defend themselves. Any men, women and teen boys/girls of all
physical abilities can learn the techniques
Knowing when and how physical or sexual assaults commonly happen
is an important part of staying safe. We will explore different
types of assaults and how to respond effectively. The importance
of incorporating safety awareness into daily activities is stressed
without scaring or making participants feel paranoid.
In acquaintance rape verbal assertiveness is an important skill
for making your boundaries clear. This is especially effective
once the woman has learned to recognize the beginning stage of
an assault and takes assertive action early on, before the assault
becomes physical. When escape or verbal assertiveness are not
viable options, a person needs to know how to defend herself.

Martial Arts for Kids
The martial arts
are renowned for providing a lifetime of personal growth skills.
We are excited to have the opportunity to share these benefits
with our students. To maximize our effectiveness, we think it's
very important for you to understand our goals and how best to
work with us to provide a great martial arts experience for all..
FOCUS:
The student will be able to pay better
attention to their parents, teachers, and friends;
they will learn how to focus on goals,
ideas, and ways to improve their education.
SELF-CONFIDENCE:
Success in a personal development program, such as
this, will aid in building self-confidence.
The student will
be able to see improvements in themselves,
in their flexibility, memory,
coordination, strength
and self-defense skills, as a
result of dedication. This is an excellent foundation for
self-confidence.
SELF-DISCIPLINE:To discipline yourself to achieve the goals you
want in life. To obey, listen, &
learn. To be able to control all body movements and
actions. Self Discipline means doing things the right way,
not taking the easy way out. Students are encouraged to practice
self-discipline, in all areas
of life.
SELF-CONTROL:
To be able to strike and have control in all movements made
by the body. To control a situation and be in control at all
times. To know when & how to say
NO.
RESPECT:This means to respect others and the art of Martial Arts and
to respect the people who teach the Art. To respect the rules
and directions giving to you by the instructor. To
respect yourself, parents, & others.
And finally, the
martial arts are good, clean fun
for students of all ages -- it's a rare opportunity to provide
you or your child with exciting skills to learn in an atmosphere
of respect and courtesy.
Parents of our higher-ranking students have said that they
considered martial arts to be a part of their child's
education. They use martial arts to fill the gaps inherent
in our public school system for physical education, personal
development and self defense.
We are very careful
to teach students that martial arts are not
to be used outside the class in any manner other than in true
self defense. The result is a self-confident
student, who does not need to bully or show off to other people.
We are very careful to teach children
to use common sense before self-defense
and never be abusive or offensive.
The awarding
of the higher levels of martial arts sashes instills a sense
of achievement and accomplishment.
This is very important to us and is the real core of the program.
Because the length of time for achieving sashes can be from
two to six months.
The movements
in martial arts develop coordination
and increase strength and flexibility,
which will carry over to the work place, school, and sports.
The program builds
character by providing the student
with the confidence to control
situations and ability to stand up to peer pressure and other
intimidating situations.
The emphasis of
our program is on establishing courtesy,
concentration and discipline. A tradition of respect
is built into our martial arts instruction.
Training for
these tests and passing them, enhances the student's ability
to concentrate, plan for, and triumph over challenges. You'll
find this to be an excellent reinforcement of study habits
and attitudes in school or at work.
